Just as the new year began, the 41st annual People's Choice Awards came around. Celebrities from many facets of the entertainment industry arrived in Los Angeles for photo opportunities on the red carpet, live performances and the chance to go home with a trophy.
As the name implies, these awards are determined entirely by votes from the public. Let's take a post-show look at some killer outfits from this year's People's Choice Awards show.
Before we get into specific looks from the show, here's a roundup of the winner's circle.
Ben Affleck took home the award for Favorite Humanitarian based on his work in the Congo. In his acceptance speech, Affleck gave a nod to the rest of the volunteers in Africa who don't get recognized for their efforts on national TV. Movies that won awards included "Maleficent," "Divergent," "Gone Girl" and "The Fault in Our Stars." Award-winning shows such as "The Big Bang Theory," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Pretty Little Liars" were honored this year as well. Musicians to take the stage and accept a trophy included Iggy Azalea, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Pharrell Williams.
The People's Choice Awards were hosted by Anna Faris and Allison Janey. Faris has made a name for herself as a female in comedy through roles in hit movies such as the Scary Movie series, "House Bunny," "The Hot Chick," and "What's Your Number?" She's also married to fellow comedian Chris Pratt, who joined the ladies on stage during the show for a moment. Allison Janey's fame grew from playing C.J. Cregg on "The West Wing" and she has since taken roles on various recurring TV shows.
Faris hit the red carpet in a white two-piece outfit that showed a hint of midriff. Her long white skirt matched the halter top that flared out into a ruffled peplum just below the bust line. Without any bracelets or a necklace, she kept her attire quite simple, although she did wear a pair of earrings that resembled Sterling Silver Square Clear Cubic Zirconia Earrings. Faris' blonde hair was pulled back in a half-up style with her thick fringe perfectly skimming her brows.
Allison Janey went for a more showy look with a glittery silver gown that fit her like a glove. The sleeveless number had a low neckline and flared out a bit from the knees for a classic silhouette. A thick silver bangle on her left wrist coordinated with her sequined dress. She carried a red bag – the perfect addition to a red carpet outfit. Her shoulder-length hair was done in loose curls and a pair of simple earrings completed the look. A simply and sophisticated look
Melissa McCarthy won the award for best comedic movie actress. When she approached the stage to accept her trophy, McCarthy thanked her fans for giving her a job. You may recognize the star of "Mike and Molly," a comedy about a couple who meets at an Overeaters' Anonymous meeting, or her role as Sookie on the former sitcom "Gilmore Girls." She also starred alongside Sandra Bullock in "The Heat" and Jason Bateman in "Identity Thief."
McCarthy looked fabulous at the People's Choice Award in an all black outfit. Her jacket had leather detailing that added to the sophisticated look and she carried a patent leather clutch. Her striking green eyes were contrasted with bright red lips, but her nail polish was a subtle dark gray hue. Keeping with the theme of simplicity, McCarthy accessorized with long, skinny silver earrings, similar to Sterling Silver Polished Snake Chain and Bead Dangle Post Earrings.
