October - Pink Tourmaline (more information)

History of Pink Tourmaline
The name of this gemstone is believed to derive from the Singhalese (Sri Lankan) word "toramalli," which means "mixed stone."

Ancient legend says that tourmaline is found in all colors because it traveled along a rainbow and gathered all of its colors.

Thought to inspire creativity, tourmaline was used extensively as a talisman by artists and writers. is believed

Legends and Gemstone "Healing Properties"
The stone is known as the "peace stone," believed to dispel fear and make its wearer calm. Tourmaline is said to inspire love, spirituality and creativity, and to give wisdom and enhance one's willpower. It is also believed to strengthen the body and spirit, especially the nervous system, blood, and limphs.

Sources
Tourmalines are found almost all over the world.

Largest producers are Brazil, Sri Lanka and South and south-west Africa. Finds have been made in Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Madagascar, Pakistan, Afghanistan and in the USA, mainly in California and Maine.

Tourmalines are found in a myriad of colors: yellow, green, red, blue, pink, brown, black. A valued bi-colored variety of tourmaline, found in Brazil, is called the "watermelon."
