The name of this gemstone is believed to derive from the Singhalese (Sri Lankan) word "toramalli," which means "mixed stone."
Ancient legend says that tourmaline is found in all colors because it traveled along a rainbow and gathered all of its colors.
A famous pink tourmaline -- the size of a pigeon's egg -- belonging to the Russian Empress Catherine the Great was long thought to be a ruby.
Thought to inspire creativity, tourmaline was used extensively as a talisman by artists and writers. is believed

The stone is known as the "peace stone," believed to dispel fear and make its wearer calm. Tourmaline is said to inspire love, spirituality and creativity, and to give wisdom and enhance one's willpower. It is also believed to strengthen the body and spirit, especially the nervous system, blood, and limphs. |
