August - Peridot
History of Peridot
The "topaz" on the breastplate of Aaron, High Priest of the Hebrews in the Old Testament, was believed to actually be a Peridot. Ancient Egyptians, wore beads made from Peridot. Legend says that peridot was one of the favorite gemstones of Cleopatra and that some of the "emeralds" worn by her were actually peridot. Romans called Peridot "the evening emerald" and was popular in rings and pendants. Peridot can be found in the Russian crown jeweles, was used by Turkish Sultans to decorate their golden thrones and is treasured in Hawaii as the goddess Pele's tears.

Legends and Gemstone "Healing Properties"
The Peridot was regarded since ancient times as the symbol of the sun bringing royal dignity upon its wearer. During the Middle Ages, Peridot was worn to ward off evil spirits. Today it is thought to bring the wearer good luck, peace, and success. Its powers include health, protection, attract love and calm anger.
