The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, one of the most awaited events in the fashion world, took place Dec. 9 in London. This marked the first year that the show wasn't held in New York City, evidence of the brand's true international presence.
Whether you caught the show or not, the models and styles were a sight to see. Check out some of the most notable details of this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
People flocked to Earls Court in London for the fashion show this year. Harper's Bazaar reported that roughly $2.5 million was raised for various charities through ticket sales.
In addition to the dozens of stunning models, four popular singers took the stage during this year's show. Hozier and Ed Sheeran were the male performers, and they were quite outnumbered backstage. Sheeran sang one of his recent hits, "Thinking Out Loud," while Hozier performed his breakout single "Take Me To Church." Ariana Grande sang several songs for the crowd, including "Bang Bang" and "Break Free." Taylor Swift performed for the second year in a row and looked right at home on the stage full of leggy blondes. Swift walked out holding hands with her bestie, Angel, Karlie Kloss, as they both donned lacy black outfits.
Nearly 50 Angels were given the honor of walking in the 2014 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. This included Josephine Skriver, Doutzen Kroes, Karlie Kloss and Elsa Hosk. Veterans such as Candice Swanepoel mingled with newbies like Grace Mahary. Joan Smalls, Cindy Bruna, and Lindsay Ellington were among the anointed Angels as well. Behati Prinsloo, Adam Levine's wife, also walked in the show this year. She's been an Angel for six years, but that's not a long time, relatively speaking. Some of the models have more than 10 Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows under their belts – garter belts, that is.
It took 25 makeup artists, nine nail professionals and 25 hair stylists to get the Angels looking so heavenly. Most of the girls wore their hair in loose curls or waves and the makeup was pretty tame overall. There weren't many bold eye or lip colors used, which may have been to keep the audience focused on the getups.
This year's styles were divided into six categories – Gilded Angels, University of Pink, Exotic Traveler, Fairy Tale, Dream Girl and Angel Ball. The Gilded Angels were dressed in various gold and metallic outfits and sported huge shiny wings. According to USA Today, the pair that Karlie Kloss wore were made with 18 karat gold. The Fairy Tale Angels wore wings that had longer points for a mystical look. Lily Donaldson was one of the Fairy Tale Angels, and she wore an outfit made with more than 150,000 Swarovski crystals, USA Today explained.
One of the highlights every year is the unveiling of the Fantasy Bra. In 2013, Candice Swanepoel wore a bra that was worth $10 million. For the 2014 show, Victoria's Secret made two Fantasy Bras – one for Alessandra Ambrosio and the other for Adriana Lima. USA Today reported that each bra costs about $2 million. With 16,000 gems, including sapphires, rubies and diamonds, the Brazilian models were simply radiant. According to Glamour magazine, the bras took designers at Mouawad Jewelers more than 1,380 hours to make.
