Heidi Klum sparkled at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards

While the Primetime Emmy Awards don't air until Sunday, Aug. 24, the Creative Arts Emmys took place Aug. 16 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

As usual, one of the main events for the award show was the red carpet where all of the celebs show off their best style. "Project Runway" host and former Victoria's Secret angel Heidi Klum was looking flawless in one of the current contestant's designs as she sauntered along with co-host Tim Gunn.

According to the Emmys' website, this show celebrates and honors technical aspects and behind-the-scenes work for television shows. There are 80 categories for awards including casting, stunts, cinematography, makeup, music and lighting. Winners were also announced for art direction, hairstyling, sound editing and more.

As the nature of television expands, so does the list of eligible programs. Commercials, interactive media, reality TV and animation had their own categories. Additionally, the website Funny or Die won an award for the short stories it published this year.

Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn were both nominated for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program as a result of their longstanding fashion design show "Project Runway." Though Klum and Gunn didn't take home the Emmy, both made quite a splash on the red carpet.

Who wore what
The German supermodel hit the scene wearing aspiring designer Sean Kelly's dress. It was a decently low v-neck style with spaghetti straps that framed the beautiful pendant Klum wore. Check out a similar necklace from Fine Jewelers, the Original Star K Cushion Cut Created Sapphire Pendant.

This dress was the ideal color to adorn with sapphires, a shade of blue-purple with black trimming emerging below the knees. Overall, the design had a stringy, fringe theme that inspired Klum to do a lot of spinning on the red carpet.

Because the episode featuring that specific dress has yet to air, viewers aren't sure what the challenge was. Some fashion bloggers suggested a simple "design an awards show dress for Heidi" design, while the sassier writers wondered if the designers had to use car parts. Apparently, not everyone was on board with the flingy look Heidi went for.

Klum wore her blonde tresses in a smoothed back half-up style, revealing a pair of sapphire earrings. Tim Gunn didn't have any bling to show off, but he was definitely making it work in his tuxedo.

Though Heidi's ring finger used to be occupied by a massive yellow diamond engagement ring from ex-husband Seal, she chose a different rock for this occasion. You can see a head-turning sapphire ring on her hand in the shots from this award show. While the size of her ring looked a bit cumbersome for regular wearing, there are more practical styles at Fine Jewelers, like the Tommaso Design Oval Genuine Sapphire and Diamond Ring.

Who won what
The Primetime Emmy Awards show that takes place Aug. 24 will be hosted by Seth Meyers and produced by Spike Jones, a 20-year veteran of the role. Beyond the awards that were announced this past weekend, the program will have even more winners.

The 2014 big winners included HBO, NBC and Netflix. With stellar shows like "Game of Thrones" and "True Detective," HBO took home 15 awards, while NBC earned 10, including five for "Saturday Night Live." Netflix won seven awards for their web series "Orange Is The New Black" and "House of Cards."

For the category Klum and Gunn were vying for, Jane Lynch of "Hollywood Game Night" was the ultimate winner.
