Stars make a bold statement at the Billboard Music Awards

The Billboard Music Award is one of the highest honors an artist in the music industry can receive. Unlike other awards shows, like the Grammys, which are determined by votes, these are decided based on year-end date relating to airplay, number of downloads and actual sales. Every year since this show started in 1989, stars go all out to celebrate one another's successes and hope to take home their own trophies. This year's event promised to be full of excitement, especially with Ludacris as the host.

Every artist that attended the 2014 Billboard Music Awards went in a different style direction, reflecting their individual tastes. However, there was one common theme across all of the looks: statement earrings.

It's no secret that when you're aiming to take a simple outfit to a new level, you have to go big or bold with your baubles. So as you're browsing the collections at Fine Jewelers, use these celebrities for some fashion inspiration.

Kelly Rowland
The truth is, a black outfit doesn't have to be basic – and Kelly Rowland is living proof. The former Destiny's Child diva arrived in a midriff-exposing top with a floor-grazing skirt that featured a thigh-high slit up the front. Since her outfit was monochromatic, the singer was able to rock some jaw-dropping jewels to spice things up. She added some serious glamour with a stack of gleaming gold bangles on both wrists, each of which had a different texture, from chain-link to smooth metal. Rowland didn't stop there, though. She also sported a pair of enormous leaf-shaped gold earrings with tiny black beads around the edges. That extra piece added even more intrigue to the outfit.

Carrie Underwood
It was hard to miss this country star when she strolled down the red carpet. Underwood's gown was extremely unusual, featuring a sheer neon chartreuse train, a plunging neckline and an intricate gray lace overlay on the top. Her chic updo had plenty of volume, and she rocked a punchy vibrant coral lip. As if her ensemble wasn't already eye-catching enough, the singer also donned a pair of long pewter drop earrings, which tied in the detailing on her dress and also matched her charcoal smoky eye. Overall, Underwood's look was a breathtaking balance between vintage and contemporary.

Jordin Sparks
Sometimes all it takes is one pop of color to jazz up a black dress. Sparks certainly wowed attendees in a glitzy sequin halter number and sassy black strappy stilettos. Her hair was woven into a tight braids against her head and then swept back into a ponytail, giving her look an eclectic touch. Sparks carried a bright tangerine clutch for a dose of playful color, and also slipped on a number of oversized cocktail rings that well complemented the dazzle in her dress. It was her earrings, though, that stole the show and drew attention to Sparks: long silver drops with enormous oblong red beads dangling at the bottom.

Miranda Lambert
If one star looked ready for summer, it was Lambert. She rocked a striking electric fuchsia mini dress featuring a see-through panel down the plunging neckline. A jet-black manicure and platform pumps have the ensemble a subtle edge, while her shiny silver clutch was an unexpected metallic accent. Lambert's accessories were arguably the highlight of the whole look, however. The country singer sported one statement cocktail ring that perfectly matched her clutch, and a highly unique pair of shoulder-grazing silver chain-link drop earring. Near the bottom of the earrings were two triangular shaped pale pink stones, which perfectly accented the color of her frock without overpowering its intense hue.
