Introducing the jewelry color of 2014: Radiant Orchid

Last year, Pantone declared Emerald the Color of the Year, and the year before that, it was Tangerine Tango. The company's forecast consistently sets the tone for popular fashion styles. For example, this year, green became the go-to color for many stars on the red carpet, from their gowns to their jewels. As 2013 draws to a close, everyone has been waiting with bated breath to find out what color will be playing a major role in style for 2014. Finally, Pantone has announced their pick, and it couldn't be more stunning. Get ready to rock some Fine Jewelers baubles in Radiant Orchid, a hue that strikes a perfect compromise between light violet and bright fuchsia.

"It is a captivating purple – one that draws you in with its beguiling charm," explained Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

The best part? According to Eiseman, Radiant Orchid looks good on everyone, no matter your skin tone. Here's how to incorporate it into your look:

Set it in silver
Of course, any setting works with a purple stone, but silver is especially fetching. The tones in this metal perfectly complement the cool inflections in orchid, making for an ideal combination. Consider a silver ring with an amethyst stone, or silver chandeliers with purple crystals. You might even stack a series of silver and purple bangles for an eccentric and eye-catching look.

Go green
If there's one color that really makes purple shine, it's green. From bright turquoise to deep forest, this hue enhances the tones of Radiant Orchid because it's on the opposite side of the color spectrum. So if you loaded up on emerald accessories this year, you're in luck. Layer some green and purple necklaces for a playful look, or look for pieces that incorporate gemstones in both colors.

Another hue that works well with purple is pale yellow. If you're rocking a blouse or a dress in this sunny shade, reach for a striking necklace with Radiant Orchid stones, which will really pop against the yellow backdrop.

Chic coordination
The simplest touches can draw attention to your purple jewelry. For example, a Radiant Orchid manicure will put your ring in the spotlight. Mixing in some sparkly crystal necklaces with your purple ones will add a dazzle factor that's bound to draw some stares. Don't forget to swoop your hair up into an elegant updo if you want people to see those spectacular purple statement earrings.
