Top looks from the Hollywood Film Awards

Every year, the Hollywood Film Awards attract a multitude of A-listers, causing the show to be known as "the first stop of the awards season," according to the Los Angeles Times. In fact, when producer Jerry Weintraub accepted the Hollywood Legend Award on stage, he even commented that the event seemed bigger than the Academy Awards. The turnout at the recent 17th anniversary show was even more impressive than ever, with many of the industry's top stars showing up at the Beverly Hilton in California to celebrate the creative community and honor excellent work in filmmaking.

While attendees all sported a different look that reflected their unique tastes, their ensembles did have one thing in common. Instead of donning a bevy of baubles with their gowns, the majority of starlets selected just one piece to accessorize with, demonstrating that if it's dazzling enough, that's all you need. Draw some inspiration from these stylish celebs next time you're sporting a statement piece from fine jewelers at a formal affair, and you're bound to catch some attention.

Viola Davis
Davis definitely drew some admiring stares on the red carpet in a vibrant canary yellow v-neck dress with black detailing on the sides that mimicked floral branches. Her chunky black ankle-strap platforms tied in the accents on her frock and added some weight to the ensemble. In terms of jewelry, she kept things relatively simple with only a pair of earrings – but the set was certainly not understated. The oversized geometric gold drops had a bold look, especially with tiny emerald green gems at the bottom.

Jane Fonda
Fonda proved she's still got it when she showed up in a sleek fitted black pantsuit with a tuxedo vibe and a plunging neckline. Her wide belt with a rhinestone square buckle gave the menswear-inspired outfit a dose of glamor, as did her silver-edged clutch. She took the opportunity to play up her low-cut top with a short sparkly statement necklace, which matched her shimmery eyeshadow. Save for a sparkly cocktail ring, the necklace was the primary source of sparkle and the main attraction of the outfit.

Julia Roberts
Roberts took home the Hollywood Supporting Actress Award, and she also won in a big way fashion-wise. While many of her peers donned slinky, skin-tight gowns, she wore a demure white babydoll minidress with a high neck and cheery watercolor print along the bottom. She kept her hair in loose waves and her makeup minimal for an effortless feel. Meanwhile, red pointy pumps really brought out the hues of the floral pattern on her frock and a pair of vibrant turquoise drop earrings offered a subtle pop of color. The rich aqua shade of her baubles gave the whole look a playful spin, which was refreshing on a red carpet full of sultry ensembles.

Sandra Bullock
Bullock accepted the Hollywood Actress Award for her performance in "Gravity," an outer-space thriller, and her look for this event was certainly out of this world. She was oozing sophistication in a curve-hugging little black dress with a sweetheart neckline and sheer mesh detailing at the bust. Soft curly tresses, fiery red lipstick and strappy black stilettos completed her chic ensemble. So what jewels did she choose to enhance the whole look? She opted to slip on just one slender sparkly gunmetal bangle, which offered a slight edge to her look without overpowering it. Follow her lead next time you're rocking an LBD at the cocktail hour and only want to add a hint of glitz.
