Nicole Kidman is inarguably one of the most chic actresses in Hollywood – but she showed there's more to her than meets the eye when she was recently awarded by the UN for her work preserving women's rights around the globe.
The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women held an honorary dinner in Berlin with the Cinema for Peace Foundation to celebrate Kidman and others' efforts for this cause. At the event, Kidman emanated poise and sophistication in a stunning cap-sleeved glittery silver gown, which she paired with bright white Christian Louboutin pointy slingbacks. An eye-catching pair of pink drop earrings added a fun, feminine touch to the ensemble. A similar pair of earrings in an unexpected summery hue from fine jewelers can provide the perfect pop of color to a neutral metallic dress.
While Kidman may have won accolades throughout her acting career, the humanitarian award from the Cinema for Peace Foundation for her role as a "global champion for women and girls" is particularly notable.
"Women represent half of humanity, and of its potential. Yet around the world women are still deprived of a life free from discrimination and violence," the Board of the Cinema for Peace Foundation said. "Nicole Kidman has helped give a voice to countless women who are survivors of gender-based violence. She is a role model for others."
As a global ambassador, Kidman has traveled around the globe promoting women's rights, serving as the spokesperson for the Say NO – UNiTE to End Violence against Women initiative. The actress has met with sexual violence survivors in different locations around the world to bring light to this issue.
"I have learned much about the horrific scope of violence against women around the world and seen its devastating impact," Kidman said in a statement. "When I first learned that one in three women and girls experience violence in their lifetime, I was utterly shocked."
Kidman can next be seen starring as the iconic Grace Kelly in the much anticipated biopic "Grace Of Monaco."
