Monochromatic looks have been popping up everywhere over the past year, showing that you don't have to wear contrasting shades for an eye-catching ensemble. By pairing classic baubles from fine jewelers with a frock in the same hue, you can make a subtler, yet still dramatic, statement.
At the recent Elie Saab couture show, Czech supermodel Petra Nemcova demonstrated just that by wearing a body-hugging cobalt dress with a simple strand of navy beads around her neck. She finished the outfit with a blue and gold embellished boxed clutch and shoes in the exact same shades. Her striking red lip was the perfect way to off-set head-to-toe blue.
While the beads certainly were an unexpected choice, they had an interesting effect. By pairing beads that were a darker hue of the same color, the necklace stood out in a different way.
Nemcova is no stranger to taking a risk, either. The model recently ditched her trademark blonde locks for a sultry brunette shade.
During the recent Clinique "Dramatically Different" celebration, Nemcova commented on her daring fashion choice.
"I never wore a jumpsuit to an event! So that's sort of dramatically, fashionably different," she told Elle magazine. "Also, I moved to Haiti! That's quite different than New York from a lifestyle standpoint."
She also explained to the publication that she settled there in January to be closer to students in the schools that are associated with her charity, the Happy Hearts Fund.
Even though the model made beads look red carpety-only, you can also dress down a similar strand. They're just as appropriate for daytime errands over a striped tank and cropped jeans or with a white linen shirtdress and leather sandals. A necklace in bright turquoise can be striking as the only pop of color against a neutral ensemble, or you can take a cute from Nemcova and wear them with a frock of the same shade.
