Inauguration brings out the first ladies of fashion

Inauguration brings the first ladies of fashion

The inauguration marked another milestone in history earlier today, and while all eyes were on President Barack Obama, some of the ladies made sure to stand out for a different reason – their fabulous fashion sense.

Sasha Obama
It was definitely a morning of statement jewelry, beginning when we caught a glimpse of youngest Obama daughter, Sasha. Known for wearing bright colors, the youngest Obama showed her knack for choosing accessories when she paired her purple Kate Spade dress and coat with a jaw-dropping statement necklace.

The necklace featured large dropped crystals that offered a perfect contrast to Sasha’s dress. The necklace’s length was a great way to call attention to the dress’ high neckline. Letting the necklace speak for itself, Sasha chose simple diamond stud earrings – similar to those she wore to her father’s first inauguration in 2009.

Michelle Obama
Not to be outdone, Michelle Obama knew that all eyes would be on her, as many consider her a style icon. Everyone may be talking about Mrs. Obama’s Thom Brown dress coat, which she paired with a jeweled belt, but Obama made sure to give a nod to her typically preppy style by choosing a multi-strand pearl necklace that peaked out just under her statement coat. Michelle followed her daughter’s lead by choosing simple earrings, which were most of the time tucked behind her chic new haircut.

Due to the freezing temperatures, it was difficult to tell if Obama or her girls were wearing bracelets or rings, as they opted to protect their hands from the cold by way of chic leather gloves.

Beyonce
While not a member of the Obama family, one woman to own the spotlight during the ceremony was Beyonce Knowles. The singer made a grand entrance with husband Jay-Z to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and her fashion choice certainly upped the glam factor.

Dressed in a black velvet Emilio Pucci gown and black Dior fur coat, Beyonce brought a new meaning to statement jewelry. In an effort to contrast her dark ensemble, the singer chose 80-carat emerald earrings with a matching 50-carat emerald ring on her left index finger, according to E! online. As she was performing her number, Beyonce brought even more attention to her jaw dropping jewels when she removed her earpiece midway through the song.
