‘Star Wars’ creator George Lucas announces engagement

George Lucas, the creator of "Star Wars" recently released that he is engaged to his longtime girlfriend, DreamWorks animation chairman Mellody Hobson. According to People Magazine, the two have been dating for the past seven years, and Lucas shared his good news this past Thursday.

This will be the first marriage for 43-year-old Hobson, but the second for Lucas. The "Star Wars" creator was previously married to film editor Marcia Lou Griffin, with whom he adopted a daughter, Amanda, before their divorce in 1983. After that, he adopted two more children, the media outlet reports.

One thing's for sure. It's likely that the engagement ring is quite the sparkler. Lucas recently sold Lucasfilms to Disney for $4 billion – a big part of which he donated to charity, E! Online reports.

"For 41 years, the majority of my time and money has been put into the company," Lucas said in a statement. "As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy."
